Your Mckenzie Friend will help you to understand the court process, prepare your case with you and help you to present it in the court. We understand that going to court for decisions about your children or your finances, or both, can be confusing, intimidating, overwhelming. With one of our professionally qualified Mckenzie Friends, you have an experienced guide by your side.

All of our team are Children and Family Social Workers with at least
ten years post – qualified experience. Our family mediators are also
qualified in mediation. Between us we have many years of experience
in helping families resolve conflict and find good solutions. Through

Mediation is process by which two people who do not agree are helped to reach agreement by an impartial third party, the mediator. In Family mediation, the goal is for two people whose relationship is over to reach agreement about caring for their children, and/or about division of the family home and finances. Yes. Financially it is much cheaper than going to court. There is a Government voucher scheme worth £500 per family, and for those on low incomes, Legal Aid may be available. In general, it is also a much better way to reach agreement for you and your children, as the court route tends to increase the conflict. A fuller explanation can be found here
Yes; increasingly people represent themselves in the family courts, choosing to be what in legal terms is called a ‘Litigant in Person’. The high cost of employing a lawyer is the most common reason. in fact, in 2025 more than 80% of family law cases had at least one person representing themselves. For most, going to court as an LIP is a very new and daunting experience, and we suggest it is wise to think your options through carefully – there are cheaper options than lawyers.
